The History Album and how to use it

The History Album is designed to be exactly that; a collection of albums full of historical pictures. Although today is tomorrow's history, most people think of history as something that happened many years ago, and we would like the flavour of The History Album to reflect that, so we would be grateful if when uploading material you don't add anything that is more recent than about twenty-five years ago.

Using The History Album is really simple. You can browse collections or search for subjects to enjoy the images from collections made by others or you can create an account and share your own pictures. Creating an account will enable you to create albums of your own images, and upload them to The History Album either just for your own use, or if you choose, for others to view and share. There is a secure e-commerce engine behind the site allowing anyone to purchase copies of your images in various formats if you decide to share, and you will get a share of any sales made as a bonus.

Before uploading, you should prepare your images as described in the FAQs and then click on "Add Media" on the left hand menu. This will offer you a simple explorer based interface which allows you to locate your images on your computer and send them to an album you create, or an existing album you have already created on The Histroy Album. Uploading files can take several minutes, depending how many are in the batch, and we recommend uploading batches of around ten files at a time. Remember that though sending larger files (as per the FAQs) takes longer, it makes the files available for larger print sizes which bring in more potential revenue, and improves the quality of the products people buy from you. If files are too small, they are simply suitable for viewing, not marketing.

Once the upload is complete, you will be offered a keywording interface which allows you to put in a description, title, date and keywords. For more information on keywording, see the Keywording Hints on the left. It is important that you always add a basic description before you move on, so that you and others can find the images if you search for them, although doing as much as possible in the first place is preferable. You can add more information and keywords later if you wish though.

You will be able to see your images online straight away, however, all content is reviewed by The History Album before it goes live for others to see, to be sure that uploaded material is suitable for viewing by everyone, including children, and as a safety check for legal issues such as copyright, for your protection. If material doesn't appear after one week, you should assume that it was deemed unsuitable for some reason, and deleted. While it is intended that all material is reviewed daily, at times of high usage, this may take longer. Please bear with us in such circumstances.

So, sharing yuor history is as easy as that! We look forward to sharing your history with you.
