About UsWhy create the History Album? At Mary Evans Picture Library, history is our business; we have been supplying the media, publishing and design industries with pictures of the past since 1964. Founded by Mary Evans and her husband Hilary, the library was born out of their love for books, pictures and history. Today, the library employs 15 staff who deal on a daily basis with requests for images from our vast archive of prints, photographs, periodicals, prints, postcards and ephemera. Our fascination with history and with the way in which the web opens up new opportunities led us to create an online “history album” enabling the nation to share its pictures and share its past. The predominant aim of The History Album is to provide a platform for people to dig out their old photographs, and share them with others through a simple and interactive web site. We hope that, like a family tree, the History Album will grow from strength to strength, and will reveal the kind of unique, quirky or historically important images we’re convinced are lying waiting to be discovered. We encourage you to spread the word about The History Album. Use our “tell a friend” facility to inform friends, family, colleagues and anyone else with an interest in history or photography? The History Album also has another dimension. Our partner, Media Storehouse can produce your favourite historical pictures as prints, canvases, mouse mats and other products - the ideal gift or treat. Finally, there is the opportunity for you to potentially profit from your old photographs, if you choose. Our Mary Evans content team will regularly view recent submissions to The History Album and add pictures of particular quality or interest to www.maryevans.com where, who knows, you could earn money if your picture is used in a newspaper or magazine. Please see our FAQ for further details. Share your pictures, share your past. |
